Medicine-Neurology

Dr. Ester Santos Bitanga graduated Salutatorian of the Rizal High School class of 1965 and proceeded to take Pre-Medical Education at the University of the Philippines as entrance scholar. Graduating in 1969, she continued her medical studies at the same school, earning her medical degree in 1973 as Outstanding Clinical Clerk. She had her internship at the UP-PGH Medical Center and was chosen as Outstanding Intern in Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Ophthalmology.

Never to rest on her laurels, she obtained postgraduate training as Internal Medicine Resident at the UP-PGH Medical Center from 1975 to 1977 and as a Neurology Resident from 1977 to 1988. From July 1979 to June 1982, she had her residency training in Neurology at the University of Toronto in Ontario Canada. She was a Chief Resident for Clinical Neurology at the Toronto General Hospital.

She is currently the Chair of the Faculty Committee of the UP College of Medicine, 1st VP of the Stroke Society of the Philippines, Chief Section of Neurology of the Asian Hospital Medical Center, among many other positions of responsibility that she has held. She has presented papers in international meetings and published research papers and other scholarly publications.

She excels in her field of expertise and by her achievements has contributed to the advancement and betterment of her chosen profession. Her achievements are testaments to our Alma Mater’s proud tradition of academic excellence and reinforce its exalted position as an eminent educational institution not only in the Philippines but also throughout the world.
